Just for the sake of argument, let’s say the officers version is true. Car is backing down the road in an aggressive manner towards them. They hear shots but don’t know where or from whom they came. Their training and mentality tells them to shoot at the car, without any information whatsoever as to what was going on, except that they see a car full of Black kids? That’s how we are training our Police now? Is that implicit bias that makes them automatically think shoot first ask questions later? They are Black so they must be trying to get away? Confusing as to why they couldn’t step back, get the car license plate and follow the car (not chase) while other officers checked to see if anyone was hurt? RIH young honor roll student whose future could have changed the world. Prayers for this family whose loss and pain cannot be expressed. Prayers for our country where the sins of our founders continue to cost us young Black lives. Lives who have the potential to be all that we want them to be.
